Herzensbrecher – Charity Group Show

Strychnin Gallery and The New English, in cooperation with Gallery Geuer&Breckner, UF6 Projects and Italian curator Giovanni Cervi, proudly present Herzensbrecher, a charity group show in favor of Ein Herz für Kinder.

For this exhibition over 50 internationally renowned artists have put their visions, styles and ideas onto hearts manufactured by the British porcelain innovators of The New English.

These one of a kind artworks will be displayed in a traveling exhibition, which will kick off at Strychnin Gallery Berlin on March 16th. The Berlin exhibition will run until April 8th.

RAW EXPO Rotterdam installation impression

This is an impression of the RAW EXPO installation. David Hochbaum and I have been building for three days in the freezing cold of a huge warehouse, which was a very special experience in itself. David’s pop-up theatre installation looks awesome, with beautiful japanese waves. A shining beacon in the darkness, attracting hordes of people during the opening. We took hundreds of pictures and it will take days to sort everything out, but it has been a blast working together to build this stuff up! The huge (5000 m2) exhibition was curated by Ruth Horstmanhoff, Piet de Jonge and Teodora Kotseva.

‘Les Animaux’ show impression

“Death Becomes Thee” – Final piece for ‘Les Animaux’

This is the final piece for the show! Engraved copper, wood, glass, illuminated engraving. It’s a lot larger than the silver pieces, which gave me slightly more room to play with. I hope to meet you at the opening of the show at Strychnin on February 10th!

Silver “Glow Moth” Jewelry preview

These are two of my Glowbug pendants, ready to be shipped to the Gallery for the ‘Les Animaux’ show at Strychnin, Berlin. The wings are engraved silver, the pendant hangs on a satin necklace. The illuminated engravings in the small domes are battery operated (battery is encased in the jewel itself and can be changed easily).

I am currently working on a larger piece in copper, with an illuminated engraving encased in a glass dome. This will also be in the same show.

‘Target Practice’ installation

Installation with an android sculpture and a selection of drawings & engravings.

What is left of the original human kind in times where nothing seems to function without electric wires? A monster, or a helpless victim? Target Practice (2011) symbolises nowadays difficulties with knowing who we are. To see this creature that is neither human nor alien, forced to crouch down and protect itself with its bare arms, makes one feel guilty. Engraved accusations blew a hole in the side of its body. Their remains still drip down the wall. Did you accuse it of being too fake, too wise or too soulless? Or did you just watch and stare? We have become afraid of the capabilities of virtual life. Target Practice encourages to take a stand in today’s identity politics.

Here are some images of my installation at the ArtFair 2011 edition in Cologne. It was a big success!

Loads of people stopped by to have a look, and thanks to the Strychnin team and the other participating artists, the whole booth looked glorious.
